Ever thought of learning about the freedom fight of India from any Britisher's point of view? Shamshera is exactly that thing. This is what the Britishers wanted us to learn .i.e We Indians were always uncivilized, fighting among ourselves (which is actually true), and it was them, who made us civilized.

Karan Malhotra is exactly that Britisher who serves us this crap in the form of a 150-200 crores movie named Shamshera.

I won't go into what was the story because I want to keep this article as much decent as possible without using any expletive language. This is the level to which this movie has disturbed me. Still let me tell you the basic plot is the done to death crapfest of "son avenging father" which when done good, can turn out to be a Lion King or a Bahubali (basically a ripoff of Lion King. Now don't expect me to praise South Cinema like a andhbhakt, even for their wrongs) , but when done in a wrong way, it will be a Mohenjodaro or Shamshera (actually Mohenjodaro occurs when you take the wrong route, Shemshera happens when you decide to take the shortcut and end up falling in a pit).

There's a limit to which I can bear crap & Bollywood has tested my patience many times but it has won today. Yes! I have been defeated. I literally finished a 2 hours 40 minutes movie in 1 hour 20 minutes by fast forwarding. And why won't I? You tell me that the lower caste Indians were made slaves by the Upper caste Indians and it were the 'KIND' 'NOBLE' 'HONEST' britishers who were innocents & saved the POOR LOWER CASTES from the MONSTROUS UPPER CASTES? Whereas on the contrary the British & whites were the kingpin of slave trade of the blacks in London from the 1730s to the early 1800s. What they did with the blacks was gut wrenching. To get a clear picture you can watch Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained starring Jamie Foxx, Samuel L Jackson & Leonardo DiCaprio (our 'Titanic wala hero') as the antagonist. Forget the blacks. Even the kind of treatment we Indians got during the East India Company rule is enough to boil your blood. Still you expect us to watch those brits as good people and Brahmans like Shuddh Singh's character, an upper caste hindu who forcibly marries a girl ¼th of his age, enslaved & tortured a tribe known as Khameran, which is a fictious tribe having no trace of existence. I don't think these writers & producers have any idea about the contribution of the Hindu Brahmans in the Independence of India else they wouldn't even dare to make sh*t like this or if they know, then they deserve this kind of hatred.

Talking about performances, Ranbir Kapoor's performance has been detoriating continuously (Yes, I have watched Brahmastra & will put an article about that later) after Sanju. In the first 10 minutes, as Shamshera, he is in a good form, and likeable also. But as soon he enters the Son's character, there's not even a single redeeming quality about his performance or character

Sanjay Dutt should remain in jail for the better if this is the kind of comeback he is thinking for. He is playing the same loud mouthed role in uncountable movies like Panipat, KGF, Prithviraj . etc. As an antagonist, he did terrorize me in Agneepath, I was scared by his performance that time. This time I felt sleepy looking at him. Shouting at the top of your lungs doesn't make you terrifying if your character itself is a disaster

Vaani Kapoor is such a good actress that even in such a terrible movie & pathetic screenplay, she managed to make me laugh, No, Wait not in her comic scene, but in a scene where Sanjay Dutt is firing bullets at her & she is in her labor & giving birth to her child. Then Sanjay Dutt's genius character asks her "Are you pregnant?" (BTW I remembered Morgan Freeman's "What happens when we use 100% of our brain?" meme after hearing this dialogue). Vaani Kapoor's reaction after that dialogue (for someone in labor pain) is just pure gold. If you don't laugh after this scene, you should probably check your motor skills. There's also a scene where she's holding a baby covering in her saree, during the climax. When rain starts and I collect the dresses drying in the terrace, even I hold the dress in a more believable way than her, that I am holding a child.

This movie is directed by Karan Malhotra whose last 2 movies I liked a lot Agneepath & Brothers (both remakes) and I didn't expected him to mess up this big.

The only redeeming quality of this crap is that I have to accept that it's one of the most visually stunning movies bollywood has ever produced. The scenes looked like some painting on a canvas & they were beautiful to watch. Now you expect that I am happy with this or this is a positive point about the movie? Just remember that 1½ months before Shamshera, YRF released a movie Samraat Prithviraj where a 55 year old Akshay Kumar was taken play a 26 year old Prithviraj Chauhan, opposite a 25 year old Manushi Chillar, who was debutante given a role as big as Sanyogita. A TV serial director Chandraprakash Dwivedi whose last movie included a movie like Mohalla Assi, tacky script, one of the worst ever looks for Akshay Kumar (it's not that he couldn't suit in younger roles. In Atrangi Re he played a 25 year old with proper deaging techniques & that could also have been used here also) and one of the weakest historical movie that served as more as an insult to the great Samraat Prithviraj Chauhan. And for a script like Shamshera, which looks disaster on paper itself, picturesque locations & sets were erected with proper VFX & high budget. Their intention was clear, just I wonder how dumb they can be even to think that such script could work, whereas their last similar kind of movie, like Thugs of Hindostan was a debacle.

I have watched bad movies this year like Gehraiyaan. But that atleast watchable. Shamshera doesn't qualify in that category also for me.
