In 2012, Barfi a movie about a muteman came. Ranbir Kapoor was given no dialogues, but he sparked magic with his expressions and Barfi was a major Blockbuster of that year. In 2017,came Jagga Jasoos, a musical thriller, something the Indian audience has never experienced. Even though it was a good movie, it bombed at the box office. After such a big flop, it took 3 years for Anurag Basu to come with Ludo.
Ludo is a typical Anurag Basu style anthology film (life in a metro) where 5 stories are interconnected with each other.
Ludo is something a bit lesser than a masterpiece. Every actor gives an earnest performance, Pritam's music is more than soothing and doesn't feels misplaced in the movie, music is more than soothing and doesn't feels misplaced in the movie, and Anurag Basu leaves no stone unturned to ensure that his audience is fully invested in his world of Ludo. The problem arises, as he loves his world so much that he keeps it extending it, only to make a lengthy 2 hours and 30 minutes affair, reaching at predictable conclusion.
The movie is not the problem, Ludo is a great movie, no doubt in that. The problem arises when some social media self acclaimed critics thrashed Laxmii last week due to it's terrible quality, the same people are calling Ludo as a disaster movie. And these idiots later tell that Bollywood doesn't make good movies. Laxmii, despite being a disastrous movie (in terms of quality), was the highest viewed Indian movie on OTT, garnering nearly 3.7M views. And Ludo's streaming numbers wasn't even released.
The problem is that if a big star like Akshay Kumar makes a bad movie, everyone's target is to criticize and spread negativity about it as much as they can. But no one appreciates a filmmaker when he makes a good movie and later we complain about quality.
I know some gangs have been formed on social media since 14 June, to boycott each and everything that comes in front of them. These guys are never concerned about quality of a movie (if they had, then a shit like Dil Bechara wouldn't have got 9.3 rating on IMDB and 10M likes on YouTube), they just have to criticize each and everything coming in front of them.
Talking about Ludo, it's a one time must watch movie, with great performances from everyone in the cast.
