THE LION KING REVIEW

WHEN YOU ARE IN A TIME WHEN EVERYONE IS DELIVERING THEIR 100, YOURS 99 SEEMS A BIT UNAPPRECIABLE.

Just like this poster suggests, yes, this is a big visual extravaganza

PROS:

The movie brings back the nostalgia of your childhood with great visuals filled with spine chilling BGM. Since I watched the hindi version, the audios were good for me.

CONS:

3 Years ago The Jungle Book came, (yes, comparisons are bound to happen, C,mon! even the director is same) and it had an altogether different charm, which was missing here. Just by putting the same visual feel, you cannot instill that same feeling us.

Everyone knows the story. What will I tell? The problem is that when the original Lion King came, the whole concept of kingship was new. Now the same kind of story has been told in several films by now for example Thor, Aquaman, Black Panther (OK! it was a bit different) and our very own Bahubali (Yes! we Indian audience exist). So the story is absolutely predictable, but the execution is excellent. In Jungle Book the ending was at least unpredictable, but here they have just put the same story. Personally, I expected a lot from a man like Jon Faverau, and I am a little disappointed

Talking about the voice actors, Shah Rukh Khan's voice was first of all not made for Mufasa, as it required a very deep baritone voice. But he manages to do what he could have done and it was good. However we barely get to listen him for just about 10-15 minutes in the whole film.

Aryan Khan is completely a misfit for Simba. From the promos, it seemed that he would have done a good job, but know what, they have just put his best parts in the promos. A complete misfit.

Ashish Vidyarthi was the best choice for Scar and he literally had the most screentime. He really gives you feels of hatred and menace through his chilling voice. And yes, by voice, both Mufasa and Scar look like real brothers.

Shreyas Talpade and Sanjay Mishra did off screen, what they usually do on screen. Both of them. They fit in their respective roles of Timon and Pumba perfectly. Although it would have been great, if they had retained the old voices from Disney's show Timon and Pumba, with the same Hakunamatata song.

Asrani does well as Zazu and at most places he will remind you of his Sholay act.

Shivkumar Subramanium has a very little to speak as Rafiki, so does Shernaz Patel, as Sarabi.

All in all The Lion KIng is a must watch if you are, a die hard fan of Disney classics and a 'just for timepass' watch, if you are not.
