6 July 2018! On this date, the rise of OTT in India begun. Anurag Kashyap's Sacres Games' season 1 was released on this date. It got unheard appreciation from critics and audiences alike. This was evident on the number of articles and memes flooded on the internet. From Nawaz's portrayal of Gaitonde to the screenplay and story. Dialogues & characterization were of another level. That show gave us memorable characters like Bunty, Kukoo, Katekar .etc. At the end of season 1,there was an excitement, we were rooting for the second season, we're curious to know happens after 25 days.
Then came the second season on 15 August 2019. The question from "what will happen next? " changed to "why did they even needed to make a second season? "
Seriously! Even the Dhoom series didn't have such a huge downfall. It looked like that from season 1, we were subjected to an altogether different show. Makers went the Bollywood way, thinking that going to foreign locations will give more viewership to the series. From the streets of Gopalmath, to direct Africa! This was one of those series, which aim at making the second season, just because the first one was a hit, caring about the quantity only, not the quality.
Or.....
This series is made by Anurag Kashyap, and we know his obsession with today's political scenario of our country. The thing is that I don't understand what was the need to put an illogical "Sex addicted Baba, planning to destroy the country" angle to the story, which could have ended as a superb thriller. Plus, at some scenes, it looked liked they were just added to give orgasms to people having political views as same as Kashyap. For instance, a bunch of Hindu boys, mob lynching a Muslim, just because he refused to get out, on being bowled in a gully cricket match, or a Sartaaj throwing his Kada in the waters, just because he felt that his father didn't do the right thing. The story goes on like just as it has to go on. The savage Gaitonde is turned to a sly moron, dancing at everyone's tunes (well, that was their motto after all), Sartaj is same as he was in the first season. Some bogus additions like Batya, Shahid Khan also couldn't save this from becoming a disaster. The only good thing in this series Pankaj Tripathi's Guruji. His calm personality with a tone of menace in it, does the work here. Remember Major Pratap from Shaurya? How, only Kay Kay Menon's acting in his climax monologue made us think that he's the hero of the film and made is forget all the secular drama of the movie? Same happens here with Pankaj Tripathi's ace acting, he confuses us that what does the makers want to show.
There are some out-of-the-world-INTELLECTUALS, who find season 2 better than season 1,and give the reason that public didn't like the second season because it didn't have nudity and abuses. If that would have happened, then we would have compared Gandi baat series with DARK. But the thing is that we are not that much Einstein level intelligent as them, who will even mania a thrash to gold. Bless your brains! 🙏
