10. Parmanu
Parmanu told the story of India becoming a nuclear country. Directed by Abhishek Sharma, known for Tere Bin Laden, Parmanu resulted as a gripping patriotic thriller. although facing multiple hurdles in releasing, Parmanu got its due at the box office. The movie was a hit and it undoubtedly deserved this tag. It makes for a must, one time watch.
9. Vodka Diaries
Probably you haven't heard about this movie. Right?
This Kay Kay Menon starrer is a masterpiece from the word go. In the beginning the proceedings will seem a bit awkward and boring, but after a certain time, the situation will be something else and the end is just unthinkable. What further elevates the movie is the flawless performance by Kay Kay Menon. Sadly this movie just went unnoticed by the audience. One of Bollywood's best thrillers !
8. Padmaavat
The most controversial movie of the decade is here!
After so many struggles, the movie finally saw the light of the day on 25th of January 2018. Padmaavat is a masterpiece.
From brilliant story to out of the world cinematography, to outstanding performances, to great direction, to soulful music, nothing was substandard in the movie. Highlight of the movie was Ranveer Singh's performance as the brutal antagonist, in the role of Sultan Allaudin Khilji. With more than 300 crores revenue, Padmaavat was the first hit of 2018.
7. Badhaai Ho
A movie which showed the power of content at the box office. Made on a budget of 27 crores, the movie was expected to do a maximum lifetime business of 50-60 crores (that also if the content is good). What happened, was not less than history. Badhaai Ho raked over 130 crores at the domestic BO. It is a kind of movie which makes you feel good and it doesn't matter how many times you watch it.
6. Sanju
What happened on the screen wouldn't have been the same, if it were not Rajkumar Hirani behind the camera, and Ranbir Kapoor infront of the camera. Ranbir Kapoor, with the support of Paresh Rawal and Vicky Kaushal, made Sanju a memorable watch for me for the rest of my life. Sanju was the 2nd highest grosser for Bollywood with over 350 crores.
5. Andhadhun
Coming from a mastermind like Sriram Raghavan, Andhadhun was one of the finest thrillers ever created. Guessing is a crime, while you are watching the movie. From Ayushman's innocent (or not) act to Tabu's villainous (or not) act, everything keeps to the edge of your seat. This was a hit. So if you haven't watched the movie till now, then I doubt your taste.
4. Awe ( telugu )
Not saying much, but this movie is a testimony to the fact that there is not much time left for India to make a film like Inception (even much better). I'm not kidding. Just see it to believe.
With Kajal Aggarwal, Murli Sharma, Nithya Menen, Regina with Ravi Teja and Nani, Awe is a masterpiece by all means.
3. 2.0
2.0 showed what the combination of budget+content can do.
Shankar has given India its biggest visual spectacle in the form of 2.0 . Rajnikanth's swag was on a different level and Akshay Kumar's shocking performance leaves us spellbound. The movie has a very important message that how we, the humans are destroying our mother nature and being the most selfish beings on the planet without giving a place to other living beings. Not only visually, but story wise also 2.0 is a clear winner (logic takes a backseat in some places though). Akshay Kumar is although being portrayed as the antagonist, in the end, you will think "who is the real villain, Pakshirajan or WE ?"
2. Tumbbad
Tumbbad shows what greed can do to a man. Such a movie is made once in a centurion. It was literally spell bounding in each and every sense. Sohum Shah, the lead in the movie has also produced it, and a big thanks to you, Soham for giving India such a masterpiece. Actually Tummbad shows us why films are made, to convey something to the people, who are watching it and this is done with utter brilliance. Rahi Anil Barve, the director of the movie deserves lifetime applause for such a gem. But, this movie was not a hit. Why? Because Indian audiences don't deserve such movies? NO
When you make a movie and you want people to watch it, then there is something called Marketing and promotion, which was completely absent in Tumbbad. With over 14 crores at the domestic BO, makers although had some profits, but it was not enough for a hit tag.
1. Padman
Call me a fan, an idiot, an ignorant or anything you want.
This is my final decision.
For me, Padman was not just a movie, it was more than inspiration for me.
Akshay Kumar, his movies may not touch the 200 crore mark at the box office (which is not going to last any long), you have to accept that your star will take ages to match the versatility level this man displays in his action skills. A mainstream actor or a superstar, wears sanitary pads in his movie. This was beyond imagination even for any newcomer in the Indian film industry, where people get offended by many things, and also some think it is cool to insult our culture and traditions. Padman maintains a thin line between the two. R Balki deserves a lifetime achievement award for this and what Akshay Kumar deserves, is beyond any recognition which can be given to an actor. Such an important subject which is considered as a taboo in many parts of our country, to make a movie on such a topic requires some balls, which Akshay Kumar had. Still it was evident in its collections (80 crores) that it was a brave attempt by the makers ( Altough the movie was a hit, Akshay Kumar's each movie rakes 100 crores+ at the domestic BO, this was the proof that people shied away from watching the movie in theatres)
